Cameras Across Cultures: Jordan

In partnership with the Norwegian Relief Council and the United Nations Population Fund, Outside the Lens hosted a photography workshop for young Syrian women affected by this crisis in a Women and Children’s safe space within the camp.

Chaparral High School

Outside the Lens provides comprehensive media education for Chaparral High School Students north of San Diego, CA. Our media educators work hands-on with students to help them use photography as a tool for learning critical media skills that will benefit them in higher education and life.

Cherokee Point Elementary

Cherokee Point Elementary is located in the City Heights neighborhood of San Diego and serves students from Kinder-5th grade. The Cherokee Point program is a partner of Arts for Learning and the new Title 1 Arts Grant project in San Diego County. ​

Cameras Across Cultures: Colombia

​Since 2001, Outside the Lens (OTL) has delivered its adaptable curriculum to 13,000 children in weekly classes, after-school programs, summer sessions, workshops and teacher trainings. Students tell their unique personal stories through photography, video and other digital media forms while under the guidance of writers, journalists, filmmakers, photographers, artists and teachers.

From its modest beginnings on the second floor of a livery stable, to its present location on Girard Avenue, our school has thrived through generous community support and participation.

Muirlands Middle School

At Muirlands Middle School, Outside the Lens educators run a daily media elective class and dynamic after-school programs. All students in either program are expected to leave the middle school with powerful photo and video skills that will prove beneficial as they advance.

Cameras Across Cultures: Thailand

The Outside the Lens CXC Thailand program provides the opportunity for
cross-cultural exchange between students from Shan and San Diego. In partnership with Photo Pal and Fortune Group Center, Outside the Lens trained staff in Thailand is implementing OTL curriculum, and working with students on our acclaimed Here I Am project.

Cameras Across Cultures: Bosnia & Herzegovina

Outside the Lens youth participate in a 2-week intensive film workshop and cross cultural exchange with local high school students in Bosnia-Herzegovina. In collaboration with MFF School, the students write and create their own short films.

Cameras Across Cultures: India

The Outside the Lens CXC India program provides the opportunity for cross-cultural exchange between students from Jaipur and San Diego. In partnership with The Tushita Foundation, Outside the Lens trained staff in India is implementing OTL curriculum, and working with students on various photo projects. Thus far, students in Jaipur have completed both the “Three of Me” and “Here I Am” projects.
